Let’s put math on beauty!


Cocoon is a brand, a SaaS tool, and a movement. We are building the technology behind the otherwise superficial category of beauty and we’re excited to expand our remote team.  Cocoon is looking for a Freelance Community Specialist with the passion to learn and change the beauty space with the perspective of a full-time commitment if it’s a good match. 

In your day-to-day, you will be working directly with the core team, especially with Head of Growth. The job can be done remotely or from Brooklyn, NY. You’ll get the opportunity to work on a wide variety of challenging tasks that lead to data democratization for millions of women with problematic skin such as acne and psoriasis. We are a data-first culture with high EQ.

Candidates should be available during US working hours to engage and moderate our users on social platforms and in our internal community. We may need careful attention outside of US working hours during launches and updates. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Builds meaningful connections and encourages community members through dialog and messaging on social media channels and in our internal community.

  • Becomes a brand advocate on social media channels (i.e. IG, FB Groups, Reddit etc) and supports management in building our voice and personality by engaging in meaningful discussions and answering questions in a timely manner based on company and community policies.

  • Inspires our users by sharing the mission with a quirky flair. Our goal is to turn our users into brand advocates. We are disrupting the beauty and skincare industries and are looking for a team player to share the same vision.

  • Collaborates with Head of Growth to develop the overall social media strategy, including planning and execution of a monthly content posting calendar, to support goals and timelines for social media communication/marketing efforts such as pop-ups, company events, and B2B sales. 

  • Understands goals, bid strategy, and budgeting.

  • Creates paid social media campaign structure for targeting audiences, testing creative, and improving reach.

  • Reports on social media performance in connection to business KPI’s on a monthly basis.

  • Supports Head of Growth in aggregating data and creating data visualizations in different BI tools (i.e. Tableau, Google Data Studio). Training may be provided. 

  • Produces short- and long-form videos for LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram Stories, YouTube, Twitter, and TikTok.

  • Works to consistently increase our social media reach and engagement with existing audiences, and develop strategies to identify and capture new audiences within our targeted demographics by the social media platform.

  • Identifies trends, real-time search and news media activity, popular social media topics, market opportunities, and competitor performance.

  • Maintains knowledge of current industry practices to make recommendations as related to information design and monitors the competitive environment (often using analytics) to improve/grow the brand’s social media presence.

  • Flags and reports in a timely manner in Asana any outstanding tech issue as mentioned on Instagram and see that they get resolved. This will require cross-functional work with product and tech teams.

  • Writes and edits assigned online content, as requested.

  • Proofreads assigned marketing communications, as requested.


  • 1+ years of experience managing and growing the social media channels of a brand or student with a focus on Marketing and eager to build a career at a high-growth tech startup.

  • Knowledge of skin care and beauty as a hobby or part of your work experience.

  • Characterized by empathy, curiosity, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to act independently and diligently on the tasks at hand.

  • Problem solver, in the know of trends and flexible with startup culture.

  • Ability to work with international remote teams over Slack, Airtable, Asana, and internal tools and complete tasks as they arise.

  • Fluent/Native English is a must.

  • Copywriting skills with attention to detail, grammar, and tone of voice.

  • An understanding of social media mechanics: reach, engagement and conversions.

  • The ability to multitask, work cross-functionally to conceptualize and execute campaigns with deadlines.

  • Deep respect for data and insights and a curious mindset.

  • Familiarity or working experience a plus with social media management and analytics tools (Hootsuite, Buffer, Hubspot, Google Data Studio).
